How can I request AAA roadside assistance now?

There are multiple ways to contact AAA for 24/7 roadside assistance.

The fastest and most efficient way is to use the AAA Digital Roadside Request online tool, or text HELP to 800-AAA-HELP (800-222-4357) and we will send you a link to request service. After answering a few quick questions, help will be on the way. While you wait, you can stay updated with text messages from your technician and track their arrival.

If you prefer to speak to a AAA call counselor, you can call (800) AAA-HELP or (800) 222-4357.

You can also use Amazon Alexa or Google Home/Assistant. For Alexa, when you need roadside assistance, just ask your digital assistant to help make the call to AAA. For Google, say “okay Google, talk to AAA road service.”

How does AAA roadside assistance work?

AAA roadside assistance is available to AAA members any day, any time, in any car, whether you are the passenger or the driver. As long as the member is with the car, they can get roadside service - anywhere in the U.S. or Canada.

We are here for you when the unexpected happens. Whether that’s when your car breaks down, your battery dies, you run out of gas, need a tire change, get locked out of your car, need minor repairs, or are just stranded.

Most common roadside services are included as part of your AAA membership, but some may require an extra charge depending on your membership level. Visit your local AAA club website for details.

To get roadside service, you will need to have the following information ready:

  • Your 16-digit membership number located on the front of your AAA membership card or Digital Membership Card.
  • The location of the disabled vehicle.
  • The type of service needed.
  • The description of the disabled vehicle.
  • Phone number where you can be contacted.

What roadside services does my AAA membership cover?

You must be a member to receive roadside benefits; membership card and photo ID is required for service. AAA emergency roadside assistance benefits for members include:

  • Towing. AAA will tow your vehicle to your regular repair shop, a AAA Approved Repair facility, gas station, or other destination of your choice. The number of miles covered depends on membership type and the rules of your local club.
  • Flat tire service. Inflation or replacement with your spare at no charge.
  • Fuel delivery. Free delivery and enough fuel to get you to the nearest gas station. Please specify diesel when you call. Diesel may not be available in all locations.
  • Car battery service. Not only can AAA jump-start your vehicle, if your battery is failing, we can test it and immediately replace it if necessary. Battery replacement is not available in all areas and the cost of the battery is not included.
  • Mechanical first aid. Minor repairs and adjustments not requiring parts or supplies to get your vehicle running.
  • Locksmith service. If you lock your keys in your car, a technician will try to gain entry. If the attempt fails, towing benefits will apply.
  • Extrication/winching service. A car that is stuck will be freed if it can be safely reached from a normally traveled road.

How much is a AAA membership per year?

You can upgrade your membership at any time. Some benefits may not be available immediately.

How many times can I call AAA roadside assistance in a year?

Each member receives up to four service calls per membership year for roadside assistance in any vehicle you are in. After four calls, a service charge applies.

Response time varies depending on several factors including time of day, breakdown location, and severity of the issue. AAA strives to provide the fastest and most efficient service possible. When you request service online, you can track the progress of your request including the location of your technician.

Does my AAA membership automatically cover my whole family?

No, AAA benefits are available only to the member whose name is on the membership card. However, if you would like to extend the perks and peace of mind of a AAA membership to other drivers in your family, you can add them as an associate of your membership at any time.

You can add adults who are at least 21 years old and reside in your household as well as drivers who are under 21 years old that either reside in your household or are full-time students living away from home. Visit your local AAA club website for details.

Can I get AAA and use it for roadside assistance the same day?

Yes, but typically there’s an additional fee if used within 48 hours of signing up.

If you find yourself in need of assistance without a AAA membership, you can sign up and request service right away, but for an additional fee that varies by club and service request type.

Can I request AAA roadside assistance if I’m in a rental car?

Yes, as a AAA Member, you can request roadside service for any car that you’re with. Whether that’s a car you own, lease, or a rental, and whether you’re the driver or the passenger. Your membership card and photo ID are required for service.

There may be limitations with regard to RVs, motorcycles, and other specialty vehicle types.
